| One day when I was working on another project, a make-up artist brought in a tarantula that they'd found in their bathroom and I was like, "Oh, this is perfect." So, I had an adult help me, because I was dealing with a tarantula, so we took it out of the container and put it in a cup and we hid it. We took the container and broke it in half and put it on the floor. When they all walked back in - "Oh my God. It's out!" They freaked out! It was perfect.
It's strange how people come up to me and treat me like they've known me for years, and I have no clue who they are. Everyone thinks they know me, but it's more like they know my character [Simon]. Which, of course, I put a lot of me into; but he's not me [and that's not] the way I act. Music is the thing that keeps me going. It's my sanity. I'm the oldest of five - I have two brothers and two sisters and they're all little. I couldn't see anyone being a big brother without the torment and the power that comes with it. It's kind of a scary thing because it's more power than you think it is when you kinda control an army of five...but it's fun. I'm definitely a teaser and an instigator. I can't help it - they just ask for it! I want to have my own short, I want to have my own calling card, like Tim Burton or Steven Spielberg - I wanna have that for me. I do have some favorite episodes that we did! One of them was quite recent - the drunk episode. How fun was that?! I got, like, five or six pages of stumbling around and slurring my words and acting like a retard - it was a lot of fun. I had never been drunk before, so it was a crazy challenge they threw at me and I wasn't quite ready, so the first day I psyched myself out and decided I couldn't do it. They were like, "Shut up - just do it!" so I gave it a shot and it sucked so they were like, "Don't do that, try this" so I was like, "All right" and we redid it till I got the feel for it after a few tries and I think it turned out really great. I do hip-hop as a hobby. I know all of the Missy Elliot video moves. I set my place when I was 8 and I did my first film. I have always known myself and been comfortable with myself, and that's eliminated teenage problems for me. I can't not be "flashy"! People are always giving me a hard time about my flashy watch and sunglasses. I have an extreme distaste for spiders. I can not stand them. I guess it is an arachnophobia. They flip me out! I had a bunch of people stay over, and in the morning my mom was going to make us pancakes but we had to go to the supermarket to get some stuff. We passed the magazines and they said "Let's see if we can find David in the magazines." They found me in two of them. They decided to walk around saying to people, "Do you know this guy in this magazine? There he is," and completely brought me out to the whole supermarket. I think Brad Pitt is a cool guy. He is always changing up and I aspire to be like that. He has good taste in projects, too. People always expect me to be like Simon, but I'm not. Sometimes he's so good I don't even want to say my lines! I've had some really intense moments with fans. I've had groups of girls try to rip my clothes off. That's not the right way to get an autograph. It's the way to get me to run. I had girls knocking on my door saying, 'Hi, is David around?'. My dad would think it was a friend and come get me, but I'd be like, 'Who the hell are you?'. One time I spoke at a banquet in Seattle and it was a little nerve-racking. But I spoke from the heart and talked about my relationship with my brother. People said my speech made them cry. We raised more than $200, 000. I would do stage work in a second if I could. The stage is an amazing experience. I may talk the big talk...tell myself I want to date a lot of girls, be a player, be a pimp, but when it comes down to it, I really am that kind of guy who'd rather find someone I really like and do the boyfriend thing. Sadly, my first kiss, ever, was on television. The entire world saw my little, dorky, awkward person try to kiss a girl for the first time. I was so scared! I do realize the importance that it has, on me as an actor, and a filmmaker, to obtain the knowledge. It's really just to strive to know all that I can know about my profession. I'm not going to school for a backup plan. I'm not a backup plan person. I'm going to do what I want to do, and if I don't do that, I'm going to die trying. We always had a great sense of humor about the scripts [on 7th Heaven]. But at the end of the day, we always took it seriously because there was a core of fans in the middle of the country who really loved it. Lots of kids are like, 'Oh, that show is lame,' but I'm proud to have been a part of it no matter how uncool it was. |
